Windham community members are encouraged to participate in the second step of the What’s Possible, Windham? community process by joining the meeting on July 24th from 4:30 to 8:30 pm at the Windham Meeting House. At this meeting, Windham residents will discuss what’s important for Windham to champion right now, prioritize action ideas with dot voting, and form task forces to implement the chosen priorities. Dani Parkins, the Municipal Technical Assistance Coordinator at the Vermont Council on Rural Development (VCRD) states that “this upcoming community meeting in Windham is where the rubber hits the road. On July 24th, community members will have the opportunity to shape their own future by showing up to vote for and champion what is most important in Windham.”
Whether you were able to join the first community forum in June or not, all members of the Windham community are encouraged to join and be an active participant in helping to decide the most important priorities for the future. As the Windham Select Board member Michael Pelton puts it, “If you couldn’t make it to the first forum, please don’t sit this one out — filling out the survey online
[available until July 11th] and joining the July 24th meeting is a powerful way to make your voice heard.”
Free pizza, drinks, and dessert will be served. Childcare will be provided, and transportation or other accommodations are available. Find out more at bit.ly/WhatsPossibleWindham.
This event is the second step of a custom, two-step facilitation process modeled after VCRD’s Community Visit process, which brings community members together to examine issues, decide top priorities, and develop action plans for the future of their town. Step one of this process collected input on the opportunities and challenges facing Windham from over 45 community members through forums and surveys available in print or online. A Visiting Team of representatives from state and regional organizations joined to listen and will be a resource the community can call on as they take action.
Windham Select Board member Michael Pelton had the following to say about the process: “What’s Possible Windham? is one of the most important chances we’ve had to shape the direction of our town—not just for now, but for years to come. With major decisions on the horizon, like the purchase of the school and the former talc mine, it is critical that we hear from as many residents as possible.”
The Vermont Council on Rural Development (VCRD) was invited by the Windham Selectboard, and provides the overall structure and neutral facilitation throughout the What’s Possible, Windham? process.
This program is funded with support from Northern Border Regional Commission, Municipal Technical Assistance Program, Vermont Agency of Commerce and Community Development, Vermont Community Foundation, National Life Foundation, and VCRD supporters and donors.
