The Vermont Small Business Development Center is a key partner in the Vermont Digital Economy Project. We are happy to announce their new guide, created after Irene to help businesses move forward in post-disaster situations. While the guides are meant to be used after such a disaster, reading through the checklists can also be helpful to businesses now, looking to make sure that everything is in order should another disaster happen.

Linda Rossi, State Director, said “We are pleased to share with Vermont the VtSBDC Disaster Recovery Guide (DRG). The Guide was produced by the VtSBDC Staff in response to the day to day challenges that were faced by the businesses we advised in the days, weeks and months following Tropical Storm Irene. This is the Guide we wished we had had in our hands the day after the storm.

“We learned that the businesses that we dealt with, regardless of their size or sustainability, were all hit hard by the enormity of the task before them and we wanted to give future businesses and the advisors/officials who will deal with them a thoughtful and comprehensive roadmap.

“The VtSBDC DRG for Businesses includes a bound 72-page guide that directs the business owner through the steps necessary to make solid and informed decisions about their post-disaster recovery using a series of checklists and data collection sheets to capture important information.

“This guide can be used in the aftermath of any disaster (whether one suffered by an individual business or in the aftermath of a large natural disaster).”

A grant financed the development of this guide. They will be “stockpiled” in each of the VtSBDC’s regional offices for immediate use in the case of another disaster. To find the advisor and office near you, visit https://www.vtsbdc.org/meet-our-team-2/
