The Vermont Council on Rural Development (VCRD) is inviting local leaders from throughout Vermont who are working to improve life in their communities to join in the deliberations at the 2nd annual Vermont Community Leadership Summit at Vermont Technical College in Randolph, Vermont on August 12th.

This event is for new, young, and emerging leaders and community organizers, as well as veteran school and select board members, planning and conservation commission participants, local project organizers and volunteers, and all who want to build skills and connections to improve the economy and quality of life of their communities.
In 2018, more than 500 Vermonters came together from all corners of the state and all walks of life for the first annual Vermont Community Leadership Summit. Attendees took part in skill development and success story sessions, and shared ideas to advance youth leadership development, expand diversity and inclusion, and support and foster leaders across the state for the economic and civil vitality of their communities. This year, in addition to educational sessions, workshops and skills training, Summit participants will review the 2018 findings, hear of work moving ahead today, share skills and strategies for success, and build points of vision for the future of Vermont local democracy, local action, and community vitality.
According to VCRD Executive Director Paul Costello, “In our democracy, all citizens are called upon to lead in one way and another; and local leadership is the key ingredient in galvanizing community projects and building the momentum that comes with collaborative action locally, regionally and throughout Vermont.”
In addition to the more than 60 speakers, facilitators and panelists for the event, VCRD has invited Senator Patrick Leahy to share his perspective on the importance of community leadership in Vermont.
