Greater Middlebury Climate Economy Initiative – Community Meeting Set for Oct 26

On Thursday, October 26, all members of the Middlebury community are invited to participate in the 2nd step of the Greater Middlebury Climate Economy Initiative. The session will be held from 6:30 to 9:00 PM at the American Legion on Wilson Road in Middlebury. At this meeting, participants will review the ideas that came out of the discussions at the Kick-Off event on September 18, prioritize some key directions through a dot-voting exercise and select 3 to 4 priorities for action, and sign up for Task Forces to write and implement action plans. This is a great chance to have your voice heard in setting some goals for Middlebury’s future. Everyone in the community is invited and encouraged to come champion the ideas most important to you and choose the initiatives you think will have the greatest positive impact. For more information, view the flyer or contact Jon Copans at jon[at] or (802) 225-6393.

This process is a great opportunity to think creatively about our community’s future,” noted Andrea Murray, Middlebury resident, architect, business owner, and member of the planning committee for the initiative. "Hopefully people of all ages, from all parts of Middlebury and the surrounding towns, and with a variety of perspectives and experiences will join us and add their voices to the conversation.

On September 18 over 100 citizens from Middlebury and surrounding communities gathered with nearly 25 Visiting Team members from around Vermont for a series of themed forums to discuss ideas for improving the affordability, economic vitality, and resilience of Middlebury while also tackling Climate Change. You can read an Addison Independent story about the kick-off event and the notes from each session. If you have ideas you would like to add to the list, please e-mail them to Jon Copans at by Friday, October 20.

Note that in addition to the Community Meeting on October 26, a Task Force on “Home and Business Energy Efficiency/Energy Transformation and Renewable Energy Opportunities” will be meeting on Thursday, October 12th from 7:00 - 8:30 PM at the Middlebury Town Offices. The purpose of this Task Force meeting is to review and further define the ideas related to Home and Business Energy Efficiency/Energy Transformation and Renewable Energy Opportunities that were generated at the September 18th forum. Anyone interested is welcome to join this conversation.
